Quick Updates to Your Home that Can Change It Completely

No matter how great your house looks, at some point you become tired of it. It’s just the fact that you live there day after day and year after year. Things that you used to love might now drive you crazy. Luckily for you, there are quick fixes to this problem. Plus, it will not have to cost an arm and a leg. And the best part, it won’t take you much time to complete either. Below are a few quick fixes that will leave your house looking newly updated.

Paint Color

Remember that orange color you originally painted your walls thirty years ago? I bet they aren’t looking so hot right now. A decade or so ago, the popular paint color for inside your house was tan or some sort of light brown. Now the new color is gray for your interior walls. Whatever color you choose, it is not an expensive fix. In addition, by springing for some pizza and drinks, you will have enough help so the painting goes by quickly.

Carpeting can be changed quickly and easily after some beginning prep. The first step is to go to a few flooring stores and see what they have available. A couple of the big box stores in home hardware offer special sales on certain carpeting as well. Sometimes you can get it for right around a dollar a square foot. The more expensive carpeting may be closer to five dollars a square foot.

Once you make your final choice and find someone to install it for you, you can save some money by moving the furniture out of the room that is going to be newly carpeted. You can even remove the old carpet yourself in about an hour. Hopefully, the padding will still be good underneath the old carpeting so you won’t have to pay for replacing the padding, either.

Painting Cabinets and Replacing Handles

There are so many options when deciding to paint your bathroom or kitchen cabinets. Part of the fun is determining what color your cabinets will be. The distressed look is pretty popular right now. This can be done by running a piece of sandpaper over the paint when it is completely dry. For a final touch, go search in the clearance aisle for different handles for your drawers and cabinets. I once came across brand name handles for sale at less than a dollar each. I still receive compliments on them all the time, and they cost me in total about ten dollars.

If your house has a bit of age to it, your bathroom mirrors and medicine cabinets could probably use an update. Back in the day, there was usually a small mirror on the front of a medicine cabinet put directly above your sink. The times have changed. Most medicine cabinets are being eliminated altogether and instead there is one giant mirror on the wall of your bathroom with some sort of frame around it. It really seems to enlarge the bathroom to a certain degree. The mirrors are not hard to find either. The new bathroom mirrors you were looking for could be just a click away.

Slip Covers

Perhaps it is your furniture that needs a bit of a facelift. But don’t replace all your furniture if it appears to just be weathered down a bit. Find a few matching slip covers that can just go right over top of it. It will give your rooms a completely new look. You will be astonished at how many people will ask you if you just bought new furniture. Slip covers have improved incredibly over the years and it is now tough to tell they are even slip covers at all.
