You may not know it, but wallpaper is back in style. More people are starting to find their way back to wallpapering, and are using it in their homes once again. Wallpaper can give any room that it is in a unique look that paint can’t quite match. Instead of painting your room one single color, you can have vibrant patterns and colors to really spice a room up. For those of you who are looking to start wallpapering, we have some tips that might make the process a little easier.
First, you want to make sure you have a wallpaper design that you like. Wallpapering an entire room takes time, and when you are finished with it, you want to be happy with the final product. Try out different samples and see which one you like best. Remember that this pattern is going to be repeated through the room, so you’ll want something that is easy to look at. Also try getting wallpaper that matches any furniture already in the room, unless you plan on replacing it.
Next, gather all of the tools together that you are going to need. There are several things that are a must for wallpapering, such as a putty knife, joint compound, sandpaper, wall primer, a level, a wallpaper tray, maybe some glue, and of course, the wallpaper itself. When you pick out the wallpaper, talk to the sales staff and they can direct you on all of the tools that you are going to need for the job. Once you have the tools, you need to do a little preparation before you begin. Plan out where the seams in the wallpaper are going to lie, and make sure all of your lines are straight. Smooth down the wall with the sandpaper, and fill in any holes with some putty.
Before you start wallpaper, clear the area around you. Wallpapering is a big job, and you are going to need a lot of room. Having things in your way will only make the job more frustrating, so remove everything that you can to make the job easier. Move furniture into another room, and take everything that is on the walls down. The more space that you have, the better.
With everything prepared, you can now begin wallpapering. The most important tip we have is to take your time. This is a slow process, but it will take even longer if you try to rush through it. Each piece needs to be glued and lined up perfectly before you can move onto the next. Always double check to make sure your pieces are level before moving on. You don’t want to finish your room only to realize that all of the pieces are not lined up. Remember to keep the pieces wet before you put them up, and to smooth them out completely before they dry on the wall.
Wallpapering can be a long job, but it is not overly difficult. If you have the free time and little bit of know-how, you can wallpaper a room over the course of a weekend. Once you’re done you’ll have a great looking room that stands out from the rest of the house. Whether you are painting a bedroom or your office, wallpaper can give it a unique feel that simple paint cannot. Ditch those old, boring paint cans and add some life into your room this weekend with wallpaper.
